The 2010 Inuvo Wii Bowling Tournament is now in full swing!  We are holding this competition as a double elimination tournament.  Twenty-four of Inuvo’s best and brightest have thrown their hat in the ring to be crowned the 2010 Inuvo Wii Bowling Champion.  In the first round, there already were many upsets, as sure favorites have been defeated by newcomers.

We are now well into the second round of games and the loser’s bracket is starting to fill up.  Since, this is a double elimination tournament, one person from the winner’s bracket and one person in the loser’s bracket will face off at the end of the tournament to determine who will be the first every Inuvo Wii Bowling Champion!  This means that right now, no one has been eliminated from the tournament yet and next round things will start to heat up as the eliminations begin.

Here’s what the bracket looks like so far:

3 Tips to Achieve Long Term Success

  | Share on Twitter Twitter | Share on Facebook Facebook | Buzz This  Google Buzz | Submit to Digg digg it |  Submit to StumbleUpon StumbleUpon |  Share on LinkedIn LinkedIn

Shelby NousainWe have a very special treat for you today! Shelby Nousain, Business Development Manager at Inuvo, is back to help you hit another home run with these three insightful tips to making the most of your marketing efforts.

There’s no doubt that the affiliate marketing world is changing. We’ve seen re-bill offers fade out, the FTC step in and regulate advertisers promoting offers with non realistic sales pitches, Google slapping affiliates all over the place, and Facebook putting a stomp down on affiliates trying to promote certain types of offers.

You may be screaming to yourself, wondering what’s happening and where’s where your business is going? How can you keep on top of all of these changes and maintain a profitable business? Well, the time tested virtue remains true in the affiliate industry as well – adapt or die! In this blog, I’ll give you three tips on how to maintain long-term success not only in affiliate marketing, but any business you pursue.

  • Do what everyone else isn’t doing.

We’ve all bought the eBooks and read the super affiliate blogs with the exact blueprints on how they made $25,000 per week with their technique. You may have even used some of these techniques with limited to marginal success, but understand that if your reading something that’s published by these guys, everyone’s using the exact same strategies. And rest assured: they are one step ahead of the game, too! They’re writing about what they did in the past, not necessarily what they’re still doing today. Most likely, they’ve moved on to their new technique/niche that you’ll be hearing about in six months. I’m not saying not to read these articles; obviously these strategies have worked, and there is value in them. The principle to success is not to learn these techniques and copy them, but rather to learn the principles of why those techniques are successful and apply them to a new niche, media source, or business model.

  • Recognize trends and capitalize on them

This builds on the last principle of focusing efforts on doing what everyone else isn’t doing. Your goal should be to find increasingly popular trends and capitalize on them. This is how the big guys make their money. They were the first to advertise on Facebook and the first to open up Twitter accounts to grow their followers into the thousands. The early adaptors had to put in the hard work to find what techniques worked, but once they did, they were able to profit from it because the flood of affiliates had not made their way there yet. As my college professor once taught “You must skate to where the puck is going, not to where it is right now.”

  • Create value for your visitors

In order for your visitors/customers to take action, they must have a perceived value that they will benefit from it. Remember that when you’re creating your next landing page, PPC ad, or mini-site. Create your ad, then take a step back, put yourself in your visitor’s shoes and walk through the ad yourself. Ask yourself: “Does this clearly communicate the value of what I’m offering my visitors?” If so, you’re ready to rock and roll with a great campaign!

These are just three things to remember to help keep the revenue rollin’ in throughout the rest of 2010 and beyond!

Advertiser Corner: 5 Tips for Creating an Effective Landing Page

Today’s edition of Advertiser Corner was written by one of our guest blog contributors, Shelby Nousain, Business Development Manager at Inuvo. Advertiser Corner is a series devoted to bringing important news, tips and tricks to our valued advertisers. Take a moment to learn some important tips in developing landing pages in Shelby’s blog found below.

Shelby Nousain

One of the most important aspects of having a product or service to offer your prospective user base is being able to sell it. Traditionally in online media, this consists of creating websites, or landing pages, that encourage visitors to continually progress to the next step, until they ultimately make a purchase, or submit their contact information to you with interest in your offering. But how do you grab their attention and guide them through that process effectively? In the affiliate world that means having a landing page that catches the visitor’s attention quickly, explains the value of your product/service, and encourages them to complete the desired action. Here are some important aspects of many successful landing pages:

  • Bulleted List– This is a great way to catch a viewer’s attention, and quickly inform them on what you have to offer. We live in a world of people with very short attention spans. In fact, I congratulate you if you’ve actually made it this far in the article! J Make sure you’re able to grab their attention within the first 10-15 seconds of viewing the page. If you can’t, likely they’ll be goners, never to return again.
  • Important Information Above the Fold – Again, if you have only 10-15 seconds to pique their attention so you’ll want to include the majority of the important information above the fold. What does “above the fold” refer to?  This is an old print newspaper term that has been adapted to the web to now mean the information that is displayed on a page without having to scroll down.  This ensures they’ll be able to see it on first glance without having to scroll down the page.

  • Call to Action– You can have the best product or service in the world, but if you don’t ask the consumer to take action then what good is it? Make sure you’re clearly telling them how to take the next step.

  • Submit Button– It’s surprising how small changes to your “submit” or “buy it” button impacts the conversion rate. Keep in mind that size, shape, color, and wording all affect consumers’ decisions.

  • Split Test – Now that we have all of the variables to play with, start experimenting to discover the highest converting landing page for your offer. A great tool to help you do this is Google’s Website Optimizer. It allows you to compare a control landing page with an experimental landing page to find the best converter.

Those are just a few upon many aspects that should be considered when designing a landing page. Remember, be creative and never be satisfied with your current conversion rate, always be optimizing!

Shelby taking in the sights & sounds of Time Square.

Wow! What a busy couple of weeks it has been for Inuvo.  Last week we attended ad:tech New York, and this week we have been working to catch up with the many new and existing clients we were able to meet up with while there.  The buzz surrounding the Inuvo Platform is building as we enter our fourth month of beta.

This was Business Development Manager, Shelby Nousain’s first trip to ad:tech New York.  Here are his thoughts on the conference:

“ad:tech New York provided a great opportunity for us to meet face to face with clients as opposed to the usual emailing and talking on the phone. This type of personal interaction is a great help in forming stronger relationships with our clients and prepares Inuvo for bigger and better things.”

Chris attempting to navigate NYC with his iPhone.

"There was certainly a sense of optimism this year at ad:tech New York, “ said Chris Gerbick, Business Development Manager, who came back from the conference feeling good. “After many down months, businesses, including our own, appear poised for an improved Q4 and positive growth for 2010. 2010 is going to be a good year for a lot of businesses in our industry."

Aside from business meetings, our team enjoyed the mild New York weather as a much needed break from the Florida heat! It was nice to break out jackets and coats for a change. It was also quite an adjustment to navigate the Subway, since we are all so used to driving our cars here in the Tampa Bay area. I’m sure this was quite a sight for the locals!

Didn’t make it to ad:tech? Not a problem! Contact the team at sales@inuvo.com today to see how we can work together.

Advertiser Corner: Differentiating Your Offers featuring Shelby Nousain

In this edition of Advertiser Corner we have some great ideas from Shelby Nousain, Business Development Manager, on how to stand out from the crowd.  Many of you have already worked with Shelby in the PrimaryAds Network.  If you haven’t worked with him yet, make sure to reach out to him at Shelby.Nousain@inuvo.com and set a time to meet up at ad:tech New York!

Competition has recently become increasingly intense for CPA advertisers. Between bidding wars to keep publishers from jumping ship, similar offers with slightly higher payouts, and the Fedral Trade Commission (FTC) cracking down on landing page language, it has been progressively more difficult to produce a profitable offer.  How do you differentiate yourself from the masses to produce a unique, profitable offer? In this blog I’ll discuss two ideas that will help you ensure you are on your way. First, go International! In life we’ve all learned that to be truly successful you have to go where everyone else isn’t. If a product or service is successful in the US, there’s a good chance that it would be successful in Europe, or maybe Australia. Not only is keyword bidding cheaper, but by bringing a success product to a new market, you are setting things up for massive growth.  Imagine if you were one of the first to create an acai offer just 12 months ago!

Second, get niche focused. Take a product and make it more niche focused.  The most successful offers on our network have laser targeted landing pages, focusing on a niche market. Instead of making a general debt offer, why not create a debt offer targeted towards college students or foreclosed home owners? The landing pages with the highest EPCs and conversion rates are targeted towards a very specific audience and can address their very specific needs. This will make an offer much more attractive to publishers as well, as they tend to have specific markets they work with.

Those are two ways in which advertisers can stay ahead of the game and find success in an increasingly competitive market. Heed this advice and bring your offer to the Inuvo Platform! You can sign up here https://platform.inuvo.com/register/advertiser/new or contact me at Shelby.nousain@inuvo.com.
